Our bug clusters were developed by ZOE scientists, who used the wealth of data collected from our research to analyse correlations between specific gut bacteria and key health markers. Each cluster is associated with its own set of biomarkers:
Inflammation & Immune Health: This cluster is associated with GlycA, a biomarker of chronic low-grade inflammation.
Blood Sugar Control: This is linked to markers of glucose regulation and insulin production (HbA1c, fasting glucose, C-peptide).
Heart & Cholesterol Health: This cluster is associated with blood lipid markers like HDL, total cholesterol, triglycerides, and lipoprotein particle size.
Healthy Body Fat Distribution: This is connected to markers of visceral fat, liver fat, and BMI.
These correlations are derived from vast data sets with statistical analysis that adjusts for age and sex.
