Lower day scores explained

It can be confusing when your day score is lower than you’d expect but it’s important to remember that your day score isn’t simply an average of all your meal scores.

There are two common reasons for a lower-than-expected day score:

#1 - Not all meals are the same size

When we generate your day score we consider the:

  • Types of meals you ate and their individual scores.

  • Amounts of each meal you ate.

Larger meals that have a higher energy density will have a bigger impact on your day score.

#2 - You may have exceeded the fat threshold

If you eat too much fat too close together and exceed your fat threshold, you’ll notice a ‘fat warning’ in your app.

When this happens, we apply a ‘penalty’ to the meal score but also your day score to reflect the fact that your body wasn’t able to clear fat from the blood fast enough.

If you’re only exceeding the fat threshold occasionally while achieving high day and diet scores, this is nothing to worry about.

But, if you’d like to learn more about the fat threshold, what it means for you, and what you can do to avoid hitting it, we recommend checking out these articles:
