What information do we need to score foods for you?
A lot of data goes into our scoring model in order to accurately produce your personalised ZOE scores. We combine results from your tests with information about the food itself. This includes nutritional information (e.g. fibre content) and also other qualities (e.g. whether it is fermented or processed).
This means that if there is insufficient or missing information, we may not be able to score a food for you. When you request for a food to be scored, it is important that you submit clear pictures containing all of the required information (see below).
Once the required information is submitted, scores are typically available within 24 hours.
What foods can we score for you?
We can score any fresh or frozen food product, as long as the following information is available:
Product barcode
Product name
Brand name
Nutritional information
Providing complete and accurate details ensures that the scoring reflects the product's true nutritional profile.
What foods can’t we score for you?
If the manufacturer has not provided a value for one of the nutrients we need (calories, carbohydrate, fat, protein, sugar, fibre or sodium/salt)
Medicinal supplements which do not contain significant macronutrients and/or that have specific health claims against them. Currently the only supplements we score are protein powders and fibre supplements
We're only able to score foods from the country you initially downloaded the app in. If you downloaded the app in the UK and then moved to the USA, we can only accept UK foods and vice versa.
Process for Updating or Reviewing Scores
How Scores Are Updated
When a product's score is updated, it reflects a re-evaluation by ZOE's food database team to ensure consistency with its ingredients and processing levels. These updates are typically visible in the app within 24 hours. Users are advised to close and reopen the app to see the updated scores. If the updated score is not visible, users should contact the support team for assistance.
Adding a New Product to the Database
If a product is not already in ZOE's database, users can submit the required information, including images of the product's front and back labels, ingredients, and nutritional details. Once this information is reviewed and verified by ZOE's food database team, the product will be added to the database, and a score will be available within 24 hours.
Viewing Updated Scores
After a score update, users should:
Close and reopen the ZOE app to refresh the data.
Check the product's score in the app.
Contact the support team if the updated score is not visible after 1 working day.
