We’ve used friendly names for the bacteria rather than their scientific name for two main reasons:

  • As some are newly discovered species, they have overlapping scientific names with other bacteria. So by using friendly names, we can make sure they are differentiated.

  • This list will align with the information in your app, to help you make more informed choices about your gut health.

Our scientist at ZOE are always working to make the most up to date science accessible, so when the time is right, we will look into sharing all of the scientific names alongside their friendly names.
