Scan your sample tube
To start your gut health test, scan the barcode on your stool collection tube. This will connect your account with the sample tube, in order for us to show your results. It is essential that you scan the tube before sending the sample.
Follow these steps:
Click on the 'Scan your tube' task under the 'You' tab of the app
Confirm that you are ready to scan your tube by clicking on 'Continue'
Provide your preferences for research participation, then click on 'Scan barcode'
Place the test tube barcode in the frame and snap a picture.
If you run into any issues scanning the barcode, click on 'Can't scan the barcode' and enter it manually.
If you are ready to complete your test, click on 'Complete your gut test' under the 'You' tab and follow the below instructions to collect your stool sample.
Step 1: Punch through the pre-cut circle on the back of the blue box
Firmly push the stool tube into it to create a secure stand for the tube.
Step 2: Unfold the paper sampling sheet
Peel the paper lining from the back side of the double sided tape.
Do not flush the paper lining.
Do not flush the plastic peeled from the double-sided tape.
Step 3: Place the sample sheet onto the backside of the toilet seat or the bowl
Place onto the toilet bowl if using a toilet seat cover. Adjust the position after placement.
Step 4: Poop in the centre of the sampling sheet
Ensure that your sample does not come into contact with the water from the toilet or any bodily fluids.
Step 5: Unscrew the stool collection tube
Do not spill the liquid inside the tube.
If you do, we will not be able to analyse your sample.
Step 6: Place the open stool tube in the perforated blue box
Place the box on a flat surface to prevent it from tipping over.
Step 7: Use the scoop to collect one pea-sized scoop of poop (or 4 scoops of liquid poop)
Collect the sample from the middle of your stool.
Why the middle?
Collecting from the middle of your poop means your sample will be less contaminated by other bodily fluids and we will be able to give you more accurate results.
How much do you need?
One scoop of poop is all we need. Please do not add more than this otherwise we won’t be able to analyse your sample.
Step 8: Screw the lid tightly and shake to mix with the liquid (invert 10 times).
It's okay if the sample doesn't mix fully. Foaming is normal.
Step 9: When you are done, flush the sheet down the toilet.
Slowly peel off the tape to avoid residue. Throw gloves in household waste and wash your hands.
Step 10: Seal the tube, but don't bag or send it yet
Make sure the lid is tight. If it leaks during transit we can't analyse your sample. This is your last chance to scan the sample tube if you haven't already, this must be done or we won't be able to send you results.
Step 11: Put the sealed bag in the bubble wrap, then into the prepaid return box.
Keep it at room temperature, away from sunlight, until you send it. Please return it on the same day you collect it or, if that’s not possible, on the next business day.
Step 12: Let us know when your test is done in the app
Tap on 'I've done the test' after you collected your sample.
Step 13: Return your sample
Place the sealed bag in the prepaid box and post it back via the mail carrier on your label. If you are based in the UK, your mail carrier is Royal Mail. If you are based in the US, please post your sample back via USPS. You can drop it in a mailbox or the post office.
If after returning your sample you realise you did not scan the tube, please speak with one of our human support agents who will be able to help you.
